Positron Moderator Systems

The RGM-1 turnkey positron beam systems, with an output of up to to 107 positrons per sec., include equipment for producing solid neon moderators, radiation shielding for sources of up to 150 mCi (22Na), magnetic beam transport, and fixturing for loading and unloading source capsules with minimum radiation exposure.

Compact Positron Penning Traps

Compact two stage traps with high trapping efficiency and positron lifetimes of >1 s can be supplied by FPSI. Longer confinement times (>1000 s) are possible by adding a separate third stage. A variety of options are available including: (a) cryogenically cooled trap electrodes to produce ultra-cold positron plasmas; (b) radial positron plasma compression using rotating electric fields; (c) harmonic potential bunching to produce ultra-short positron beam pulses (<200 ps); and (d) electrostatic optics for extracting the beam from the magnetic field of the trap.

Turn-key Positron Beam Systems

Complete computer-controlled positron beam systems can be supplied by FPSI that include various combinations of the items noted above. A system incorporating many of the items was recently delivered to Professor Allen Mills at the University of California, Riverside.
